American Psychologist Article:
Leadership, Followership and Evolution
Robert Hogan, Rob Kaiser and Mark Van Vugt recently published an article in
the American Psychologist.
The article analyzes the topic of leadership from an evolutionary
perspective and proposes three conclusions that are not part of mainstream
theory. The authors draw several implications of evolutionary analysis for
leadership theory, research, and practice.
Why is leadership important? During
times of peace and prosperity, it seems not to matter. However, when
politicians start wars, when business leaders gamble with our life savings,
and when religious leaders create violent sectarian divides, leadership
becomes a matter of life and death.

incorporate the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), Hogan Development Survey
(HDS), the Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI), and the Hogan
