Back to Academic Collaborations

To fulfill Stellenbosch University’s requirements for his MBA, Jacob van der Merwe sought to understand how employee values impact their decision making. Specifically, he was interested in how individuals prefer to be rewarded, and how values can influence the selection of rewards. He used Hogan’s Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI) and the Reward Preference Questionnaire (RPQ) to measure values and reward preferences in 78 individuals. The study found a relationship between values and reward preferences. Organizations should strive to include both extrinsic (salaries) and intrinsic (performance management) rewards.
